Reports from the Big Apple have surfaced that Brendan Shanahan, 3-time Stanley Cup winner with the Detroit Red Wings, has signed a one-year deal worth $4 million with the New York Rangers.
Shanahan has been the center of money talks in Detroit since last month, and the loss will be devastating to the vetern leadership of the Red Wings, as they already lost their Captain of 18 years, Steve Yzerman, to retirement earlier this month.
Both Detroit and the Montreal Canadiens reportedly offered the 37-year-old more money than the $4 million he is set to receive.
Shanahan made his NHL debut 19 years ago after being selected in the 1987 entry draft by the New Jersey Devils. He spent his career in the Devils organization, as well as with the St. Louis Blues and Hartford Whalers, before landing in the Motor City.
Shanahan has 598 goals, 634 assists and 2,378 penalty minutes in 17 NHL seasons, and will most likely finish his career playing for the team he scored his first goal against 19 years ago.
