NFC
Who else thought the Wizard of Tempe singlehandedly destroyed ARI's chance for a big win with the stupidest gadget play this side of Pluto? Even if you run an idiotic play like that, against a Joe Gibbs coached team, as your last gasp to win a football game, you don't run it to the short side of the field. Give Anquan Boldin some space and maybe he has a prayer.
PHI is dead. Long live Dumbavan McChoke. Andy Reid might be saying the right things, but he has never been able to get his team prepared for big games. Now he can't get them prepared for any games.
In CHI all those doubters are issuing apologies for having doubted Brian Griese. Count me out of that group. Brian Griese is a backup who had a good game. Over a full season, he plays himself back to the bench.
DAL actually is the class of the NFC. They rose up against the worst starting QB in the last decade of NFL History, maybe ever, and managed to hold Adrian Peterson to 5 yards per carry and only one huge kickoff return. I guess a team becomes the class of the NFC by not starting Travaris Jackson at QB, and limiting carries for the most dominating RB since . . . . .gosh I can't remember when I saw a RB dominate like Peterson. Maybe Bo Jackson?
GB didn't play, which means Brett Favre only threw two underhanded picks to opposing LBs.
I'm kind of glad that NO went marching in to ATL and kept hope alive with a win over hapless ATL. I used to think that Michael Vick was stupid for ruining his career in GA (ruining his life is another matter). Now Jail is starting to look good comapred to QB'ing the Falcons. Of course Byron "Club Sandwich" got hurt. Giving rise, once again to the Joseph Harrington experience. Was it me, or did it seem like the team just quit playing when Harrington came in? Hasn't it seemed that way all season? Do the Falcons only play for black QB's?
Some times you have to take two steps back, after taking one step forward, right? Evidently, the 49'ers took that to heart. Who would have thought anyone would ever say "just wait 'till they get Alex Smith back".
Meanwhile, the Giants continued to punish opponents by using four DE's on the DL. Next week they break out their new, improved D. 4 DE's, 3 MLB's and 4 RCB's. I can't wait.
SEA had a huge win over the Rams. Doesn't every body?
Speaking of huge wins over doormats, NE ran up the score on the worst Dolphins team ever. Suprisingly, FA megamillionaire, Joey Porter had no comment after the game, he didn't even call Kyle Brady a homosexual . Note to the Dolphins, when a part time player with a full time mouth is your jewel from free agency, bad times lay ahead. And y the way, don't hang your hat on a QB with a paper head.
I don't know what is more sickening though, watching the Pats hammer the worst of the worst, or hearing the talking heads anoint them as Champions seven games into the season. NE hasn't played a decent team yet, save the Cowboys, and had defensive genius Wade Wilson decided to try and stop the pass which is how NE wins ball games, the outcome could have been much different.
But here's the reality folks, putting 27 on the Jags is like putting 150 points on the hapless Fish. And the Colts wouldn't have allowed a joke like Miami to drop 28 on them. INDy is the best team in Football, they can run and pass, and they even play D. When all is said and done, NE will be another on the list of high scoring teams that didn't win the SB. But next week, Belicheat will have the delight of facing another subpar unit with an inexperienced QB in Jason Campbell. More hype to come!
JAX fans, don't kid yourself into thinking that losing David Garrad made a difference last night. The Jags have shielded him like the Steelers shielded Kordell Stewart in 2001. Korkie even made the Pro Bowl that year. But NE stacked against the run and Korkie showed himself, just like Garrard will against any quality team.
Speaking of my Steelers, what the hell happened in Denver? I'll tell you what happened. When rumdums like Larry Foote start bragging about how the Steelers "don't adjust to what other teams do, other teams adjust to what the Steelers do" you're in big trouble. This is where an inexperienced Mike Tomlin needs to do more of his Chuck Noll act and tighten a few screws. Foote is a too small, too slow, leftover from the Cowher era. He'll be gone once the Steelersmake the switch to the 4-3 that Tomlin prefers. If anything Mike Shanhan, once again, proved how easily a team can abuse Dick LeBeau's Keystone Kops defense.
And maybe it'd be good for Ben Roethlisberger to spend a few minutes learning how to protect the ball in the pocket. Three defenders around him and he has the ball on his hip? Next thing you know, Denver has a TD. I'm totally in agreement about preferring Tomlin over Cowher, but why the hell is Roethlisberger using every sound byte he gets to shitcan Cowher? Get over it Ben, Cowher's gone. Focus on becoming a QB, not being a whiny bitch.
Let's not forget though, that Denver wasn't exactly the patsie the Steelers took them for, I still believe Denver is the best of the AFC West.
Am I ignoring SD? No. The Chargers are a .500 team and will be one at the end of the season. Thank you Norv.
How about that Sage Rosenfels? Is there a QB controversy in HOU? No. Matt Schaub is the starter and the Titans D should be ashamed of themselves for quitting midway through the 3rd quarter. But if I'm Gary Kubiak, I'd be concerned about developing Schaub into a QB who can succeed with more than one receiver.
Did I mention how much I admire Herman Edwards. No one gets more out of less. Edwards will look like a genius for fielding a competitive team all year in KC. Then they'll get some talent in a year or two and immediately start underachieving. No one gets more out of less, or less out of more.
That's all for now folks.
