September Baseball

This is it. September baseball at it’s best. Division Rivals square off all over the country this weekend, making their case for the playoffs. The Yankees and Red Sox square off at Fenway, Chicago heads to St. Louis to take on the Cardinals, the Mets host the Philly’s. Not that the Royals are contending but they visit Cleveland, who is contending. Cincinnati meets contending Milwaukee, Baltimore and Toronto square off, not that they matter, Arizona meets the Dodgers, and non-contending Barry Bonds I mean San Francisco meets contending San Diego.
This is the weekend, and tonight kicks it off. These are the days when the fans head to the dresser and take out the faded t-shirt, then head to the closet and take out the crisp, clean jersey, the old team jacket gets snagged, deepening on where you are. Then on the way out the door, the hat that has been worn one to many times gets dawned for yet another ball game. These are the days of the rituals, the good luck dances, and the game faces. These are the pitching match ups that we wait for all season. These are the at bats that players look for, these are the days the fans boo hardest, these are the nights the fans cheer the hardest. These are the days the players grind through the hardest, to give their team that last chance. This is September, this is baseball.
