Selig's opinions will Change when A-Rod comes along

If Alex Rodriguez breaks Barry Bonds home run record, I’m curious to see how that will play out. I’d like to see if Bud Selig will go down to the clubhouse and congratulate Alex.  Or for that matter, if Selig applauds A-Rod and doesn’t just keep his hands in his pockets.

I’d like to see if they stop the game to present Alex with an award.  In my person opinion I don’t know why Selig isn’t coming to the Giants home stand this week against the Washington Nationals.  What was all this for then? Why did he follow Barry for 11 games and now just not show up. Steroids or not Bud Selig is not representing baseball well right now, as commissioner you should support your league no matter what the circumstances.  I think we will have to wait until someone new breaks the records to find out Selig’s true feelings about Barry Bonds.

Quite frankly, I hope Selig is not still the commissioner if and when A-Rod breaks the record. That said, unless new information comes out that incriminates A-Rod with regard to steroids, I highly doubt we'll see any of the wishy-washy attendance or theatrical behavior that Selig is exhibiting right now.

Bud is expected to step down by 2010 I believe. AROD won't be near the record until around 2015.

The best thing to happen to baseball will not be Bonds retiring or the end of steroids. It will be when Selig finally leaves the game.

Amen to that. No Selig and we have no one to poke fun at for being an idiot. He is so blind that even in the middle of the Sahara Desert he couldn't lead a horse to water looking at the Mediterranean Sea. A Rod may or may not break the homerun record in the future but the ways things are going for MLB someone may say that he is on drugs or something. About the only positive thing happening is Gal winning his 300th game and it would seem here that he maybe the last of the pitchers to win 300. Johnson is only 16 away but he is almost 44 and is so hitable now that at times he looks like a 3A pitcher with only a so so fastball and little if any control. In the near future I can't think of anyone that will even come close to that number of wins. Gal did it in only 20 years and there doesn't seem to be any pitcher likely today to last 20 years in todays game as a starter. Selig should retire in the next couple of years and it would be for health reasons just so he can get out of the line of fire that is hitting him straight in the face since all these drugs problems started to surface. Should Selig go to the 756 homer game just because of the drug situation or shouldn't he. As much as I don't respect Selig he is in a very hard situation here. He has no where to go but down down down and that is what is pulling him along in this Bonds problem. Aaron has washed his hands of it and it certainly looks like Selig is trying to wash his hands of it too. But the bottomline effort is simply either call Bonds on the steroids and do something about it in relationship to baseball or accept the fact that the record for homeruns is going to be held by a liar and a cheat who had to turn to drugs and other illegal substances to be able to compete with the younger stronger players in todays' game.

Without Selig, we wouldn't have interleague play, and we'd probably still have two divisions and no wild card. His track record isn't good since then, obviously, but you do have to give him some credit. I do think he should retire, though.

Obviously Selig's (or whoever's commissioner at the time) reaction to A-Rod will be much different that his reaction to Bonds. A-Rod is a FAR more PR friendly star than Bonds has ever been. And, for now at least, there is no evidence, of any kind, that would link A-Rod to steroid use.

Bud Selig's tailor should be shot. And so should the man wearing those over-sized cheap used car salesman's suits. JFC Bud, is it that hard to find decent suits in Milwaukee?
