The Boston Red Sox more than doubled their run production so far this season and crushed the Seattle Mariners today at the Fenway Park opener. Josh Beckett (W, 2-0) had his second straight dominant start, pitching 7.0 innings and allowing 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 8, including K'ing Ichiro three times. Jeff Weaver (L, 0-1) was shelled in his first start of the season, giving up 7 ER in only 2 IP.
The offensive stars for Boston were Jason Varitek, who went 3-4 at the plate with 3 RBI, and J.D. Drew, who hit his first home run in a Boston uniform -- a two-run shot in the second off of Weaver. Kevin Youkilis also went 3-5, and Julio Lugo had a perfect day at the plate, going 2-2 with 2 walks.
Jose Lopez and Richie Sexson both knocked in runs for Seattle. The Mariners managed only four hits against the Boston staff. Adrian Beltre continued his abysmal start, going 0-3 to lower his batting average to .077.
Coming up next... Tomorrow's tilt at Fenway is arguably the best pitching matchup of the season so far, as King Felix (1-0, 0.00) takes on Daisuke Matsuzaka (1-0, 1.29). Don't miss it!

Guillen is a certifiable nutjob who has it for the Angels and ex-Angels.
You may remember Guillen ratted out on Donnelly couple of years ago with the pine tar.
