Sean Taylor Dies at 24

34
Vote

by Niteowl049

Sean Taylor who had been shot in the leg early Monday morning has died in a Miami hospital. His father notified Richard Sharpstein a family friend of his death about 5:30 this morning. His father said that Sean was with Christ.

Taylor had many run-ins with the law but none of that matters as his family mourns his passing. The intruders who shot Taylor are being sought by police.

Taylor was a safety for the Washington Redskins.

Stories like this transcend sports since he was trying to get his life together and was trying to defend his family while being shot by a burglar or intruder.

May God give comfort to his family at this time.

How many more brothers in the NFL have to needlessly be slaughtered?

Memo to Gene Upshaw & Roger Goodell - Get these young guys some help in the form of a peer mentoring program.

More later. This is very sad.

Tyrone- how can you say something so stupid- how do you know what this murder is all about-- so what are you implying that Sean was into drugs? guns? gangs? Shame on you!!!! Perhaps this was straight up a burglar- Sean being the victim here- wrong place at the wrong time- or being targeted because he is rich-- you make me sick Tyrone- absolutely disgusting- sayin Upshaw and Goodell need to provide counsiling- way to stereotype Sean before any info has come out.... but.... actually maybe I could be their shrink................... still shame on you Tyrone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How does a peer mentoring program suggest any wrongdoing in this instance? There are all sorts of pressures/security matters/etc. that a young guy needs to learn to live life on and off the football field. Why do you have to turn this into a stereotyping debate?

Well you wrote "brothers" which means black Tyrone-- then you bring up a mentoring program right after a black player dies and talk about slaughtering of players in the NFL- this all implies that Sean was into some bad things and died because of it- Again read what you wrote-- peer mentoring in this cause isn't warranted to bring up-

Jamel, Taylors house was broken into and the phone lines cut a week ago by presumably the same people. He had a machete in his bedroom to defend himself. He has had numerous run-ins with the law. The incedent was described as a blatant attack. I would say Tyrone hit the nail on the head by saying Upshaw and goodell should try to address these KID'S problems before they get out of hand like this.

Not once have I blamed Sean Taylor for any wrongdoing. Why does that even have to be assumed because I suggest that the NFL take a proactive stance towards helping its younger athletes?

I think the NFL and NBA and MLB and even NHL all need to start getting more active with these young kids- takin them from the street with no money and then throwing millions at them-- it's not good-- perhaps they should hire me

Your right Jamel, it's not just football. Hell, it's not just sports. Really, it needs to start with their highschool coaches, and the college coaches. Some teams do this with their players. Cleveland did a wonderful job with Lebron, and The Pittsburgh Penguins did the same type of thing with Crosby. Both of those examples were peer mentoring type attempts at keeping their young stars grounded.

When he was with the skins he had two arrests, one was just a DWI, but the other was aggrevated assault with a gun.

His one year old daughter was in the house at the time of the shooting making it even more tragic. Hope they catch the shooter or shooters soon so they can spend the rest of their life behind bars or executed like Taylor was.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and teammates. As a Redskins fan, this season will always seem tragic to me now, regardless of how the team does the rest of the year.

I hope they catch the prick who did this. Twenty-four is way too young. He had the majority of his life ahead of him, nevermind his career.

It is a shame to see someone so talented, and one who had a great future to look forward to, die so wastefully. I feel horrible for his daughter, parents and girlfriend. This is a horrible event. Hopefully the Redskins don't pack it in for the rest of the season, but if they do, who will blame them?

Wow I'm pretty amazed by that. I'm also a little taken back that he died from a gunshot wound to the leg. Isn't that normally preventable? Unless of course they hit an artery or something. I don't know, I'm just a bit shocked is all.

Talk about bad luck. They did in fact hit an artery in his leg so by the time the paras reached him he had lost a tremendous amount of blood. My thoughts go out to all affected by this senseless murder.

That's horrible. I don't know if anyone remembers (an this is a bit off topic - sorry) but about two years ago there was a shooting involving that kid from A Bronx Tale, "C." He and his father-in-law got into a shootout with a cop. The cop shot each of them three or four times and they lived, yet a single bullet caught the cop right in the spleen and he bled to death. The odds of something like that happening pisses me the hell off.
