Scott Studwell (John Scott Studwell) was born on August 27, 1954 in Evansville, Indiana. After going to high school at Harrison (Evansville, IN), Studwell attended the University of Illinois. Studwell made his professional debut in the NFL in 1977 with the Minnesota Vikings. He played for the Minnesota Vikings for his entire 14 year career.

He was nicknamed "Stud". Studwell graduated from the University of Illinois, where he starred as a linebacker. In 1977, he was drafted in the first round by the Minnesota Vikings, for whom he played fourteen seasons. During that time, he was selected to two Pro Bowls.

After a successful career with the Vikings, he moved into their front office and since 2002 he has been the Director of College Scouting which is responsible for all the preparations of the NFL Draft. Mr. Studwell goes about the job the same wasy he approached his playing career with intensity and tremendous work ethic. Studwell personally scouts the majority of the players the Vikings pursue and spends nearly half of each year on the road.
