Schmidt Strikes Out 16, Matches Giants Record

San Francisco Giants SP Jason Schmidt struckout 16 batters on Tuesday night, mathing a a franchise record. Schmidt led the Giants to a 2-1 victory over the Florida Marlins. Schmidt struck out three consecutive batters in the ninth inning after giving up back-to-back singles to open the inning. In total, Schmidt threw 124 pitches. Schmidt tied the Giants record set by Christy Mathewson on Oct. 3, 1904.

BTW - Someone needs to do a follow up story to this. Since Schmidt threw 124 pitches, what will happen in his next start? Will it be a quality one? Or does he hit the showers before the 3rd inning?

AFter Sgmidt's first CG this year he went out and threw another one giving up only one run. The game after that he threw 7 innings and gave up 2 ER. Not bad.
