Saturday's NFL preseason games

There was many exciting preseason games on Saturday, the real reason that I wrote this is that I would really like for the regular season to start, and SOON!!!!!

NFL Preseason

PITT 12

WAS 10

  • Washington having many injuries going into Saturday, add three more to that list. Starting QB Jason Campbell suffered a bruised knee, LB Marcus Washington a dislocated right elbow, and WR Mike Espy injured his lower leg (unsure of specific injury). The Redskins defense dominated most of the game stopping the Steelers offense in the red zone many times, allowing just four FG's, but ended up losing on a Connor Hughes 19-Yd FG with 1:31 left. Mark Brunell attempted a comeback, attempting to get into FG range, but didn't get it after a few costly penalties, and then having one of his passes intercepted by Steelers DB William Gay.

HOU 33

ARI 20

  • On his second series new Houston QB, Matt Schaub, led the Texans down the field in 12 plays, and capped off the drive with a 5-yd TD run with 3:06 left in the first. Schaub, and second-string QB Sage Rosenfels both looked good (Schaub: 9 for 12, 108 Pass Yds, Rosenfels: 8 for 13, 125 Pass Yds, 1 TD). Arizona QB Matt Leinart was great going 7 for 7 for 70 yards and a TD. Both offenses did great, the difference in the game was that Arizona threw 2 INT's, and had 10 penalties, Houston didn't turn the ball over at all, and only had 5 penalties.

DET 23

CLE 20

  • Rookie QB Brady Quinn made his preseason debut, after having an 11-day holdout. Quinn didn't enter the game until the 4th qtr, but he looked great, he went 13 for 20, threw 155 passing yards, and 2 TD's. He nearly brought them back from a 23-point deficit, the Browns were held scoreless up until Quinn went in, then he led his team to 20 consecutive points. Although they lost, the Browns had a good game, if Quinn plays like that the next two preseason games, he may have the starting job by Week 1 of the regular season.

NO 27

CIN 19

  • The difference was the running game, Cincinnati may have outgained the Saints in rushing yards, but the Saints passing game set up easy, short rushing TD's for Bush, McAllister, and rookie Pittman. Cincy Kicker Shayne Graham hit 4 for 4 in FG's (51,33, 25,32). The Saints used their running game to control the clock, and just played a better game, mostly from their first-string players (backups had 2 fumbles lost).

JAC 31

TB 19

  • Well, this is the first time I have seen, or heard about WR David Boston in a few years, he caught a 19-yd TD pass in the first qtr from starter Jeff Garcia (only catch of game). TB didn't do too good on 2-point conversions (0 for 2), while Jacksonville QB's looked great (18 for 27, 223 pass yards). But, TB QB Jeff Garcia looked promising, going 6 for 6 43 yards, and a TD. Jacksonville rushed for 4 TD's, all of which were 8-yds or under. If only Jacksonville could do this good in the regular season.

DAL 31

DEN 20

  • The highlight of the game: Patrick Ramsey threw a 90-yd TD pass to WR Brian Clark. Who is Brian Clark? Well, he is a WR for the Broncos who caught 4 passes for 117 yards, and a TD, although he didn't help them win the game. I am still pretty sure that this game will be one of his last games as a Bronco, he probably won't make the team, but now at least he has a memory as an NFL player. But, Dallas still ended up beating Ramsey and Clark by 11, and RB Marion Barber III, who I think should be Dallas's starter instead of Julius Jones, rushed for 57 yards, and 2 TD's.

GB 48

SEA 13

  • Aaron Rodgers replaced starter Brett Favre and threw for 2 TD's. GB scored 48 points all coming in the first three quarters (28 in the second). GB collected 3 passing TD's, 1 rushing, and 2 defensive TD's (both fumble returns). Seattle's left-handed QB David Greene threw 3 INT's, and zero TD's, certainly not what Mike Holmgren wanted to see. Seattle's turnovers (6 total: 3 lost fumbles, 3 INT's), and lack of defense (gave up 4 TD's: 3 passing, 1 rushing) was the reasons why they lost this game, their backups didn't impress any coaches, especially after a 48-13 loss.

SD 30

STL 13

  • Usual benchwarmer Frerotte, plays almost mistake-free (one fumble, but was recovered), but the Rams didn't do too well otherwise, starter Marc Bulger threw an INT, as well as third stringer Brock Berlin. L.T. was not in uniform, which is a good thing, you don't want him getting hurt before the regular season even starts. SD LB Stephen Cooper was all over the field recording 12 tackles (11 solo), and bettering his chances of making the team. KR Darren Sproles broke the game wide open with his 81-yd KR for a TD in the 2nd qtr, the Chargers never looked back, winning the game 30-13.

OAK 21

SF 26

  • Without JaMarcus Russell signed yet, the Raiders QB's did okay, throwing 2 TD's, and 1 INT. LaMont Jordan ran for a TD, and WR John Madsen, and RB Zack Crockett both caught TD passes. Smith and Dilfer both threw TD's for San Fran, and without Frank Gore, RB Thomas Clayton did okay running for a TD on 42 rushing yards. Walter, and Culpepper, the backup and starting QB, both had 2 fumbles (both were recovered thankfully for them). In the game, there was just one total T.O., that is good news for both teams.

This just in, the JaMarcus Russel holdout became a lot more funny after Culpepper's 2 TD tosses.
