Born on July 7, 1906 in Mobile, Alabama, Satchel Paige (Leroy Robert Paige) played for the Cleveland Indians, St. Louis Browns and Kansas City Athletics over the course of his 6 year career. Paige broke into the bigs on July 9, 1948 with the Cleveland Indians, and put up a 2.48 ERA in 72.2 innings pitched in 1948, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Satchel Paige's best season was 1952, when he posted a 3.07 ERA, won 12 games, notched 10 saves and struck out 91 batters.
