This was a great game for both teams until the fourth quarter when the wheels feel off of the Lions offense.
B.C. started the scoring early in the first quarter with a K Paul McCallum 47-yard field goal. K Luca Congi answered back just 1 minute 24 seconds later with a 22-yard field goal of his own.
The following B.C. series sputtered and they were forced to punt. Saskatchewan QB Kerry Joseph took over on his own 28-yard line. He led off with an 11-yard pass to WR Jason Armstead. The yardage gained was increased with a 15-yard face mask penalty against the Lions. The next play was a 56-yard bomb to Armstead for a Roughrider touchdown.
The Lions offense sputtered again.
Joseph hit WR Jamal Richardson on a crossing pattern who rumbled for 40 yards. However, before being tackled, he was stripped of the ball. The ball bounced out of bounds, but was last touched by the Lions, so the Lions took over on their own 38. This mistake was converted into a McCallum 44-yard field goal.
The Lions seemed to get into the game on an interception by DB Barron Miles, late in the first quarter. Dickenson took over on his own 34-yard line. He led off with a 49-yard pass to WR Paris Jackson. The next play was a 10-yard pass to WR Ryan Thelwell. QB Jarious Jackson came into the game to make a 1-yard run to finish the first quarter. At the end of the first, Saskatchewan 10-BC 6.
Dickenson finished the drive on the next play with 16-yard touchdown pass to RB Antonio Warren.
After several back and forth series, Dickenson led his team to another touchdown with a 12-yard strike to P. Jackson. Late in the quarter, McCallum kicked another field goal, this time from 43 yards to give the home team Lions a 23-10 lead going into the half.
Kerry Joseph came out in third quarter on a mission to get his team on track. This was capped by another touchdown pass to Armstead, this time for 19 yards.
B.C. responded on their first drive, of the third quarter, with a 42-yard McCallum field goal.
Later in the third, the Roughrider defense scored a safety on a McCallum punt. At the end of the third quarter the score was Saskatchewan 19-BC 26.
The fourth quarter was a story in itself. The Roughriders did the majority of the scoring, the Roughrider defense came up big or Dave Dickenson lost his touch, or was it the quarter of BC penalties?
Joseph scored on a one-yard touchdown run early in the fourth.
The Roughrider defense started putting big-time pressure on Dickenson. Dickenson was knocked down, sacked, and hurried throughout the quarter.
Congi mad another field goal this time from 19 yards.
Dickenson, despite the Roughrider defense, led his team deep into the opposition's end of the field but was intercepted twice in the end-zone. On the last interception, Dickenson lost his cool and threw his helmet at the BC sideline.
On the final play, Joseph ran the ball backwards all the way through the back of the endzone to give BC a safety.
