Sasha's 2007 World Series prediction

by user Sasha

I'll get right to the point the winner of the 2007 World Series is... the Tucson Sidewinders!!! Now for those of you who don't know the Tucson Sidewinders are the Arizona Diamondbacks AAA farm team. Now you may be saying, "how can a AAA team win the World Series?" well in short they can't and maybe I should clarify my prediction. I predict that the 2006 Tucson Sidewinders will win the 2007 World Series. Now your confused and your asking, "how can a AAA team win the World Series a year after the team played?" well again they can't but the majority of the players can.

O.K. lets take a look at the Diamondbacks now with Gonzo leaving that opens up a place for either Scott Hairston or Carlos Quentin to play left or right, both played the majority of the season with Tucson. And because Gonzo is leaving Eric Byrnes will move to either left or right and open up a spot for Chris Young to play center and he played for Tucson for most of the year to. Shortstop will almost certainly be filled be Stephen Drew and what was he's team for most of the year? Yes Tucson, how'd you know. And if the D-Backs don't bring Johnny Estrada back next year Miguel Montero, Juan Brito, or Robby Hammock will be the back-up or even starting catcher.

The team also has many a man who will be competing for a spot come spring training, including some needed pitchers.

The final reason that the 2006 Sidewinders will be the 2007 World Series champs is how much cheaper they will be then all those vets that the D-Backs will be able to pay a big name pitcher like Jason Schmidt or Barry Zito.

Oh and you want prof that the Tucson Sidewinders are so great, well how about winning the PCL West and then sweeping the first series and then losing one game in the PCL and winning the rest clinching the PCL, and just a few hours ago they won the AAA championship. Oh and the Sidewinders have the best record in baseball, thats rookie league, single A, double A, triple A, and MLB.

So thank you but thank me more when you win that $50 bet that you and your buddies make pre-season.

I don't know about that. If I am gonna put my money on a young team, I am going with the Marlins.

Oh but since it was me, Sasha, it'll be right. And the Marlins will probably get rid of the manager who is the reason that they have won so much.

Yeah... as a Diamondbacks observer, you may be suffering from myopia - your heart is too close to your head. My non-biased opinion says Yes, the BabyBacks are talented, but the Rockies, Padres, Marlins, and Angels are EVERY bit as stocked with youth as the D-Backs are. But my non-biased head says the whole division will be improved next year, so they better worry about winning their division first... Minor league records don't mean a thing. If they were so good, they wouldn't be in Tucson!

They need frontline pitching and SERIOUS bullpen help. Where will the power production come from? The ownership has shown it wants to get into the black before they'll start spending again (They are STILL paying players & debts from the 2001 WS team)

Bob Melvin is a nice guy; a young team needs a tough, fiery manager or at least a tested one. Sorry Sasha, I'd like to see it happen, but unless you're taking on all comers, I'm keeping my $50...

Good points, Manny. The Buffalo Bisons tore up AAA for several years and we all know how many championships it brought to Cleveland...

Manny I know that its just pie in the sky dreams that the D-Backs win it all next year but of the teams you named (and yes I know there are many others) the Rockies young guys are all up and have produced nothing, the Padres have Barfield Gonzalez and a few pitchers which is not nearly the 'Backs stock pile of talent, the Marlins are going to fire there "fiery manager" that you say a young team needs, and the Angels just have infielders. You posed the question why, if the players are so great, aren’t they up already and the truth is that they are, all but Juan Brito on the list I put of likely starters next year are up, and the Sidewinders still won there division, the PCL, triple A, and the best record in baseball. Yes they probably won’t win but I still think that they have a much better then 30:1 chance, especially since with the cheaper rookies we may be able to pay the up scale free agent pitching, or like you say Manny that the D-Backs want to save money maybe a rookie will be traded for some pitching. And who says that the Diamondbacks don't have any homegrown pitching. I've rambled for to long. Thank you.

Key players for the sidewinders included Donnie Sadler, Randy Choate, Robby Hammock, Casey (Mr Jenny Finch) Daigle, Mike Koplove, Juan Brito, Matt Erickson, John Weber, etc... WHERE is the O!F??? Take a look at the Tucson roster ONLY 3 guys under the age of 24, and all three are 23 and all three will be 24 before next season!!! Where's the YOUNG talent? In Phoenix already... and the D-Backs haven't exactly torn it up lately...

Now I'm 15 and I don't know a lot about the world but I think the last time 24 was considered old was when the Black Plague was spreading through Europe. And I did the math my self and the average age of the Sidewinders is 26.09 which is still a good two years below the accepted peek point. No not the D-Backs haven't "torn it up lately" except for tonight where they are absolutely destroying the Padres.

Wait till your 24, out of college, and have a job that sucks the life out of you. Then you will undestand.
