Sam West (Samuel Filmore West) was born on October 5, 1904 in Longview, Texas. He made his Major League debut on April 17, 1927 for the Washington Senators. In 1928, his rookie year, he hit .302 with 3 home runs and 40 RBI. West played for the Washington Senators, St. Louis Browns and Chicago White Sox over the course of his 16 year career.

Most people believe that Sam West's best season was 1931, when he hit for a .333 average and knocked in 91 runs.
