Sam Jethroe

Sam Jethroe (Samuel Jethroe) was born on January 20, 1918 in East St. Louis, Illinois. He made his Major League debut on April 18, 1950 for the Boston Braves. In 1950, his rookie year, he hit .273 with 18 home runs and 58 RBI. Jethroe played for the Boston Braves and Pittsburgh Pirates over the course of his 4 year career.
Most people believe that Sam Jethroe's best season was 1951, when he slugged 18 home runs, stole 35 bases, hit for a .280 average and knocked in 65 runs.
