Born on April 26, 1917 in Niagara Falls, New York, Sal Maglie (Salvatore Anthony Maglie) played for the New York Giants, Cleveland Indians, Brooklyn Dodgers, New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals over the course of his 10 year career. Maglie broke into the bigs on August 9, 1945 with the New York Giants, and put up a 2.35 ERA in 84.1 innings pitched in 1945, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Sal Maglie's best season was 1951, when he posted a 2.93 ERA, won 23 games and struck out 146 batters.
