C.C. Sabathia 12-2 became the first major leaguer to win 12 games in 2007. Last year he won 12 games all season with a 12-11 record and at the end of June last year was 6-4....A's shut out the Yankees 7-0 on one hit as Chad Gaudin 7-3 and Rich Harden combined to allow only one hit allowed by Gaudin. Yankees remained eleven games back of the Red Sox since the Rangers edged the Red Sox 5-4. Sammy Sosa is fourth in AL in runs batted in with 63 after having only 45 in 2005 his last season with the Orioles.
Mariners won their seventh in a row by defeating the Blue Jays 8-3 and moving to within four games of the first place Angels in the AL West. Ichiro Suzuki ended the game hitting .368 and had 47 hits for the month of June hitting .427....Brewers took another early lead like they did on Friday but this time they didn't let the Cubs back into the game as they added to their 4-2 lead over one inning and eventually winning 13-4. Ryan Braun was the star of the game for the Brewers with a 4 for 5 game and drove in four runs. Ben Sheets 10-2 picked up the win. Sheets was 6-7 for the entire 2006 season.
This has been a lost weekend for the Phillies as they have lost the first three games of their four games series with the Mets and hope to salvage at least one game with a win today. Carlos Beltran has hit four home runs and drove in five runs in the last two games for the Mets. Phillies send Kyle Kendrick 2-0 the mound today against Mike Pelfrey 0-5. If the Phillies could have swept the Mets this weekend they would have finished the series a game ahead of the Mets but if Phillies lose today they will be 7 games behind the Mets instead of being one game ahead.
Jose Cruz Jr. doubled in the winning run for the Padres as they took a 2-1 win over the Dodgers and moved another game ahead of the Diamondbacks and Dodgers....Mariners have the longest winning streak with 7 wins....Rays have the longest losing streak with 7 consecutive losses....In the last ten games Mariners are the best with 9-1 record while Rays, Nationals and Rockies are the worst with a 2-8 record.
