SS Reporters New NFL Top 10

Well......this week was different. Lots of changes to make here.

1. New England Patriots. They only won 34-17 against Cleveland, what's wrong with them?

2. Indianapolis Colts. Okay, they ran right over the Buccaneers, but without Marvin Harrison, Joseph Addai, and Bob Sanders, that's pretty impressive. Although, Tampa Bay are running out of running backs.

3. Pittsburgh Steelers. The refs did well, the Steelers did very well, and they are flying high.

4. Dallas Cowboys. Comeback shomeback, they sucked, they should've lost, it's that old Buffalo Bills gotta choke habit. Romo however, redeemed himself in the final minutes.

5. Tennessee Titans. Vince Young threw 3 picks, but you have to love that Titan defense.

6. Jacksonville Jaguars. Big road win against a team that had won 2 in a row, so they are improving.

7. Washington Redskins. They actually look good, it's just 1 yard that separates them from an undefeated record.

8. Arizona Cardinals. You heard me right, they are 3-2, and beat the Steelers, sounds pretty impressive to me. Now Kurt Warner is a full time QB because of the injury to Matt Leinart.

9. Seattle Seahawks. What the heck was that? Saints and Rams should be easy games for them, injuries and all.

10. New York Giants. They're on only because of their defense, that offense needs help in a huge way.

Giants ahead of the Packers. A team that beat them like a drum.

You should be saying something like "the Titans at 5th?" I think the Giants have done a little better than they did in their first 2-3 games, but the Titans at fifth? And the Packers aren't even in the top ten? What's up with that?

I'd have the Texans over the Giants at this point.

The AGM consensus at the moment is as follows:
  1. New England
  2. Indianapolis
  3. Dallas
  4. Pittsburgh
  5. Green Bay
  6. Baltimore (too high at this point... damn poll inertia!)
  7. Tennessee
  8. Washington
  9. Seattle
  10. Houston

The Cowboys have to be above the Steelers. The bottom line is that the Cowboys beat a team they should beat despite their WB throwing 5 INTs and losing a fumble. The Steelers have a loss to a team they have beat. The Cowboys win may have been ugly, but it was a win. The rest of the poll to me shows how bad the NFL is.

That makes complete sense to me. The Cowboys looked like dogs@*&& last night on offense in what was a trap game. In Buffalo at night first MNF game in 13 yrs and the Pats coming to Dallas on a short week next week. Bottomline is they found a way to win a gutsy game. Most team would have folded and lost their QB for life. They are undefeated and thats what matters.

I'm not so sure, remember how many offensive TD's Buffalo had last night? As for the Buffalo matter, they looked like dog$$%^ indeed, but MJD, the Steelers lost to a team they should've beat? The Cardinals are 3-2, the Bills are 1-4, I wouldn't rate Dallas over Buffalo.

Penalizing the Cowboys because they won a game ugly makes no sense to me. The fact is that they are undefeated. The Steelers are not. In fact, the reality is that between the Cowboys and the Patriots, the Patriots have convincingly beaten teams that rank near the bottom of the league while the Cowboys have at leat 1 victory against a team you rank in the top 10.

And yet the Cowboys almost lost a game that really had no business being close. The Pats have convincingly won against every team they've played, all teams that they would be expected to win against.

The only reason is was close was because of Romo's six turnovers. I think the fact that the team still managed to win that game speaks very highly of the Cowboys.

And yet Romo's six turnovers don't speak poorly for them?

I actually think it works in their favor. Sometimes players/teams have bad games. The fact that they could win in spite of themselves is good. It's something Green Bay couldn't do.

Of course Romo's turnovers don't look good. But when you look at the first five games as a whole, his performance last night is not typical. The fact that the rest of the team picked up the slack is a great sign.

To be fair. Here is my top 10.

1- Colts - reigning champ and undefeated. Impressive win this week missing their RB and top WR.

Patriots - They have looked great so far but faced no real test. Cowboys are their first test. Assuming neither team loses between now and then, the battle for #1 comes on November 4.

3 - Cowboys - They looked anything but good yesterday against the Bills but still managed a gutsy win. Big week this week at NE.

4 - Packers - This is the closest spot in my poll. I give the edge to the Packers because of their win over San Diego and their loss to the Bears. I don't expect the Packers to remain this high ont he list.

5 - Steelers - Lose a very close battle to to the Packers because I am not impressed by the teams they have beat nor lost to thus far.

6 - Jaguars - MJD might be the most underated back in football right now. So far looks like Garrard was the right choice. Next 2 weeks are huge. Wins in both could skyrocket them. Losses in both takes them off the list.

7 - San Diego - The only controversial pick on my list (I think). They are among the most talented teams in all of football but have to survive Norv Turner. With the AFC West all at 2-3, I expect the Chargers to make the playoffs and be the one team no one wants to face.

8 - Titans - Is there anything VY can't do? Only loss so far was a clsoe one to #1 Indy. The only thing holding them back is a subpar rushing attack.

9 - Ravens - As always, this defense is among the best in the league and makes them competitive even when Kyle Boller is the QB. With Mcgahee carrying the load and that defense, there is a recipe for winning, no matter how boring.

10 - None - the reality is that there is little to distinguish the rest of the mediocre teams. From here on in they are just either mediocre (Redskins, Giants, Lions, Bears, Panthers, Bucs, Cardinals, Seahawks, Houston) or worse than mediocre/bad/horrible (Eagles, Vikings, Falcons, Saints, San Fran (without Smith), Rams, the rest of the AFC East, Browns, Bungles, the rest of the AFC West)

That ravens defense has been anything but impressive this year. They looked good against San Fran, but everyone's defense looks good against San Fran.

Winning a game in which you had a -5 turnover ratio doesn't make you good, it makes you lucky as sh%t.

What is the intent of the statement about Kurt Warner? Is it a positive or a negative that he is the full time starting QB in Arizona? I ask because he's got 33 fumbles over the last 4 seasons. That's 33 fumbles in 29 games.

It's just a matter of time.

Although I do agree that AZ is playing pretty good right now.

Cheezer, you make a great point, one that as a fan has me feeling a little uneasy. If we can protect him we're fine. but our very young O-line is not playing as well as they started off, mostly b/c now they are young, inexperienced AND injured. it was thin line to start with. and to make matters worse the Cards are wanting to sign Vinny Testaverde. wow.

With your recievers, if you give any QB enough time they should be able to move the ball downfield. Probably the best WRs in the game today.

Cowboys vs. Patriots next week should be a doosy! Doubtful it will be a Super-Dooper-Bowl preview, as the Redskins defense will take them to the promised land to face Tom Brady and company.

yep, pretty impressive they've won two in a row with Boldin hurt. I'd like to see their offense start playing better, so far their defense has carried them but their secondary is so vulnerable, in a real dogfight thats a big liability

Something has to go be wrong with the NFL if the Arizona Cardinals are #8 in someone's power rankings.

If these NFL ranked teams share the same fate as those in the NCAA, then half of these teams are going to lose this weekend!
