SF Giants: Sweeney Sent To LA

In the first trade between the Giants and Dodgers since 1985, the Giants sent Mark Sweeney to LA in exchange for a player to be named. This move makes all the sense in the world at this point for the Giants. Everybody likes Sweeney and he still is a valuable weapon to have on a bench, but he doesn't make a whole lot of sense with this Giants club.

I actually had a chance to meet and talk with Sweeney a little bit during his time with the Giants and I don't think I've spoken with a nicer ballplayer. It's going to be tough seeing him in Dodger blue. He did good things here, but the Giants don't need a veteran pinch hitter, they need to get younger as fast as they can. I'm not expecting the Giants to receive a noteworthy prospect in this deal, but at the very least, this trade enables the Giants to bring up a younger player and start giving them the at-bats that veterans have been getting. It looks like it's going to be Dan Ortmeier getting the call-up rather than Freddie Lewis which would have been my choice. I hope the trend continues and the Giants are able to get rid of a few more veterans (Ryan Klesko, Pedro Feliz, Steve Kline and Omar Vizquel) before the August 31st waiver deadline.

Why can't they send Bonds out to pasture next?

Apparently, it is a requirement to be nice and genuine in order to escape San Francisco.

Christof, why do you hate Barry Bonds, give me one good reason? Don't say steroids because they've been investigating him like he's Tony Soprano for 4 years and they have nothing. So what?

They actually do have things on Bonds. Glance over the leaked grand jury testimony.

The problem I have is that the grand jury testimony will become public knowledge at some point in the future. At that point, the truth will come out, and it is not going to make either baseball or Bonds look good.

To say that there has been nothing linking Bonds to roids is wrong. It is just a cover. When the cover, what is behind it is not going to be pretty. ANd by covering, you make things that much wrose when the truth comes out.

This is why I do not like Barry Bonds.

Christof, I'm not really following your argument. You don't like Bonds because you think he's covering up the fact that he did steroids? Anyway, I want to direct you to http://onlyb...matters.com/. The writer there, John, just did an excellent piece on a reaction to an article discussing the exact things your talking about. It's a good read. Check it out and let me know what you think after that.
