SF Giants: Lincecum for Rios?

The Toronto Blue Jays and San Francisco Giants have been going back and forth adding players to the deal and taking them away. The deal that started out as a one for one remains a one for one. The big question is, will the Giants pull the trigger? The Toronto Blue Jays have offered up an amazing young hitter in Alexis Rios for a part of the foundation of the San Francisco Giants, Tim Lincecum. Both of these players seemed to be the building blocks for their respective teams. Giants GM Brian Sabean had already stated earlier this off-season that the two Giants aces, Matt Cain and Lincecum, were virtually untouchable, but now with this deal he could go back on his words. The Giants are in a position to trade away a great young pitcher for a great young hitter.  The Giants need to think of this, if they do give up Lincecum for Rios they still have Cain, Noah Lowry, and Barry Zito in their rotation and Rios filling the HUGE hole in the middle of the line-up. They keep Lincecum then they have a great rotation, but still no hitting. The Giants also need to keep on their minds that they might not see a deal like this come across again this winter. They might not get offered another great young hitter and they might try to settle with an older player like the have in the past. Give up Lincecum and you ahve Cain to build around in the rotation and Rios in the line-up. I feel this benifets the Giants in many ways, all though hurting them too. You have to make sacrifices though, with this current offense the Giants are going NO WHERE. I know I was a strong supporter of the Giants keeping both Cain and Lincecum, but that was until the Blue Jays offered up Rios, Sabean don't be scared, pull the trigger! For the sake of tickets sales and Giants fans everywhere!

I really hope they do...I mean in the short time Lincecum has been in the picture I have come to love him, but this offer seems perfect for the Giants situation...Gain offense (much needed) and still have a Cain and Lowry in the rotation....hopefully Zito can regain former form

The Giants don't have anything going offensively. Ray Durham? Omar Vizquel? Pedro Feliz? Almost nothing. I would definitely go with an Alex Rios/Rim Lincecum trade. That's the only way Matt Cain is going to achieve more than 2 wins in a season.

I always like change. Alex Rios playing outfield can definitely get over the whole Barry Bonds spot missing.

I'd probably rather have Lincecum, but it's not a terrible deal given the Giants' needs. Lincecum is under contract for a couple years longer. I don't really see why the Blue Jays would be eager to trade away their best hitter - they don't have much offense, either.

The Blue Jays are nuts if they do this trade as a one for one. I know they need pitching to compete with the Yanks and Sox but this looks to be a panic move.

i think the jays need a sure fire prospect pitcher who can step in and be a number 2 guy behind dock..burnett hasnt been doing much in his time with the jays mostly injury and mcgowan and marcum are good young guys to have in the rotation.. with travis shneider in the minors and lind ready to fill in they can take a step back to move forward. With wells locked up in center we could use another arm. Rios is a quality guy who filled out but it wouldnt overly hurt the jays if they kept thier lineup healthy. no one gets hurt in this deal

a good young hitter is always less risky than a good young pitcher.

Jays have some good pitchers - Halladay and McGowan are both great, Marcum is pretty good, Burnett is a good pitcher if he's ever healthy. They had the 2nd-best ERA in the AL despite playing in a division loaded with great lineups.

I first saw Rios about five years ago in Puerto Rico, and he was just a really skinny kid, about 180 pounds, which is light considering he is 6'6". But I could tell just how he moved and how the ball came off his bat that once he filled out his power would go up and his deadspin fly balls would become line drives, meaning more hits and EBH.

He contended in '06 for the batting title until he got sick so the hitting ability is there and I would be surprised if he didn't win one someday.

Lincecum is good, not great, yet, but if the Jays make this deal they are stupid.
