Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard blasted his 100th career home run this evening. The slugger hit his 100th homer in the bottom of the fifth, giving the Phillies a 3-0 lead versus the Cincinnati Reds. The three run, dead center, home run was hit off of Reds starter Aaron Harang.
Howard, the 2005 National League Rookie of the Year, and 2006 NL MVP, has played in 324 games, or two full MLB seasons. He has come to the plate 1,134 times. Hence, he is averaging a home run over 11.34 plate appearances.
Simply put, Ryan Howard is the best home run hitter to emerge in baseball during this post steroid era. At 27, Howard is only just entering the prime of his career. Barring injury, it is quite reasonable to think that Howard will have a career worth of Hall of Fame consideration.
Howard plays for the Philadelphia Phillies, a team that is eight losses shy of 10,000 losses overall. Occasionally, a blind squirrel finds an acorn. Here, the Phillies found a mighty acorn that belts out homers like no body’s business.
Let’s just hope he continues on as is!

Game is scoreless in the fifth.
Two on.
And you blast the first pitch that you see 505 feet.
Priceless!
