Ryan Grant
[edit] Biography
Ryan Grant, who was born on December 9, 1982 in Suffern, N.Y., attended Don Bosco Preparatory School in New Jersey where he was voted Associated Press' New Jersey state player of the year after rushing for 1,963 yards and 26 touchdowns as a senior.

He went on to play at the University of Notre Dame where he became the 13th Irish running back to rush for 2,000 yards in his career. He started during his sophomore year in 2002 when he became just the seventh Notre Dame back to rush for 1,000 yards in a single season.
In his junior year, he shared time with now Dallas Cowboys' running back Julius Jones and ran for just 510 yards during the season. In his senior season, with Jones gone to the Cowboys, Grant was scheduled to be the feature back for the Irish, but an early season injury limited his carries and he was back to sharing the starting job with Darius Walker.

Nonetheless, Grant signed as an undrafted free agent with the New York Giants after surprising some with a 4.43 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine but spent the 2005 season on the practice squad and the 2006 season on injured reserve after a freak non-football injury.
With their depth at the running back position secured, the Giants traded Grant to the Green Bay Packers before the season for a sixth round draft choice. Even though the Packers were not nearly as deep at the position as the Giants, Grant was stuck as the fourth string running back, behind Vernand Morency and rookies Brandon Jackson and DeShawn Wynn.
Injuries and ineffectiveness of the trio ahead of him allowed Grant to get his chance in Week 7 against the Denver Broncos. He did not disappoint, rushing for 104 yards on 22 carries.
Prior to Week 7, the Packers were the NFL's worst rushing team, but after Week 7, Grant was second to only LaDainian Tomlinson in rushing. In the final ten weeks, he rushed for 927 yards.
[edit] Post Season NFL Career
In the 2008 Divisional round of the NFC playoffs, Grant had a record setting day against the Seattle Seahawks. He started the day poorly fumbling on the first two Packer possessions which led to a 14 point Packer deficit. The team stuck with him and he rushed for Packer franchise records of 201 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Although he was extremely low on both the New York Giants' and Green Bay Packers' depth charts to start the 2007 season, Grant has shown all the characteristics of a good runner. He has shown surprising quickness, extremely great vision to quickly recognize cutback lanes, and great toughness and the willingness to put his shoulders down and take any hit.
Despite all this, he continues to share time with Vernand Morency on passing downs, though he has caught 30 passes for 145 yards in the Packers' 15 games.
