A Bonds fan should point out that if Bonds played when Ruth did, he'd not be allowed on the field.

A Bonds fan should also point out that beer was illegal when Ruth played . . .

Beer wasn't technically illegal under the prohibition which lasted from 1920-1933, only alcoholic beer was. You could still purchase "near beer" which was the equivalent of non-alcohlic beer today, with a small amount of alcohol in it.

Plus according to Wikipedia, The Volstead Act was amended to allow "3.2 beer" (3.2 percent alcohol by volume) by passage of the Blaine Act on February 17, 1933...which would be rendered moot with the passage of the 21st amendment later that year.

Plus Ruth played from 1914-1935, so he could have enjoyed legal, fully alcoholic beer at the beginning and end of his career.

check out http://www.d...d-172246.php for the full picture. They had 30-40 Phillies line up with a banner that read, "Babe did it on hot dogs and beer. Hank did it with class. How did you do it?"

My favorite sign from the Philly series was the one in left field that read, "Hey Barry. Move your head. We can't see."

Ruth will have more respect than Bonds because people liked Ruth - he never cheated. Aaron will have more respect than Bonds because of being black, for being consistant, and loyal (the Steve Yzerman of baseball). No one seems to want Bonds to break the record. Unless you support San Francisco.
