Russ Stein (Russell Frederick Stein) was born on April 21, 1896 in Warren, Ohio. After going to high school at Kiski Prep (Saltsburg, PA) and Niles (OH), Stein attended Washington & Jefferson College. Stein made his professional debut in the NFL in 1922 with the Toledo Maroons. He played for the Canton Bulldogs, Pottsville Maroons, Frankford Yellow Jackets and Toledo Maroons over the course of his 4 year career.
