[edit] Biography

Born on June 5, 1974 in Van Nuys, California, Russ Ortiz (Russell Reid Ortiz) played for the San Francisco Giants, Atlanta Braves, Arizona Diamondbacks and Baltimore Orioles over the course of his 9 year career. Ortiz broke into the bigs on April 2, 1998 with the San Francisco Giants, and put up a 4.99 ERA in 88.1 innings pitched in 1998, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Russ Ortiz's most productive season. Some believe that it was 2003, when he posted a 3.81 ERA, won 21 games and struck out 149 batters. However, others believe that it was 2001, when he posted a 3.29 ERA, won 17 games and struck out 169 batters.
