[edit] Biography

Born on October 25, 1923 in Peru, Illinois, Russ Meyer (Russell Charles Meyer) played for the Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies, Brooklyn Dodgers, Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox and Kansas City Athletics over the course of his 13 year career. Meyer broke into the bigs on September 13, 1946 with the Chicago Cubs, and put up a 3.66 ERA in 164.2 innings pitched in 1948, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Russ Meyer's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1949, when he posted a 3.08 ERA, won 17 games and struck out 78 batters. However, others believe that it was 1953, when he posted a 4.56 ERA, won 15 games and struck out 106 batters.
