Born on May 10, 1914 in Townsend, Wisconsin, Russ Bauers (Russell Lee Bauers) played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Browns over the course of his 8 year career. Bauers broke into the bigs on August 20, 1936 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and put up a 2.88 ERA in 187.2 innings pitched in 1937, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Russ Bauers's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1938, when he posted a 3.07 ERA, won 13 games and struck out 117 batters. However, others believe that it was 1937, when he posted a 2.88 ERA, won 13 games and struck out 118 batters.
