Rumor Mill: A-Rod to the Angels

20
Vote

On Tuesday night, Los Angeles Angels owner Arte Moreno guranteed a major acquisition this offseason. If by major he means big names, it might not get any bigger than Alex Rodriguez.

Despite solid offensive numbers this season, Rodriguez is in the midst of a torturous season when it comes to how the New York Yankees fans have received him. Various struggles also have earned the wrath of the New York media. At the July 31 nonwaiver trade deadline, it came up that perhaps Rodriguez needs a fresh start. If money truly is no object, then Rodriguez will find his way to the Angels' wish list.

"The economics aren't going to be any kind of hurdle at all," Moreno said Tuesday. Rodriguez won't come cheap. The Yankees figure to ask for no less than Ervin Santana, Scot Shields, Chone Figgins and a high-level prospect.

Let's get an A-Rod to the Mets for Reyes rumor started! (Remember, until the Rangers stepped in, A-Rod was all but a Met when he was a FA...)

I find it hard to believe they would want to trade him at all!

Not diminishing his talent, I completely understand why they would move him. They don't neeeeed his production. If they can turn him into a stud player and several prospects, it accomplishes the following:
  1. Moves his salary (although I assume they'd take some back)
  2. Won't really hurt them for the present
  3. Prospects (especially pitching) would help them significantly in the future. You can always buy hitters, pitchers are harder to accumulate.

Oh, and as for in the AL, I doubt that's an issue. Think about how horribly brutal he'll perform when VISITING Yankee stadium and the fans slaughter him. He'll have to bring his shrink on the road.

You know they could fix all of his problems real easily... let him play his natural position - SHORTSTOP! Play Jeter at 3rd and watch his production go splat!

Do the Yankees understand the definition of "prospects" judging by the way the Clippers played this year I think they prefer the term "random guys that can outrun a parked Ford Pinto, out-throw Richard Nixon and outhit Jay Mariotti"

well, to get A-Rod, they traded away another "can't handle the Big Crapple" no-talent hack (that went 40-40) and hemmed and hawed all summer if they were going to trade to get him back...

Mets are fine the way they are. If they want to get someone get Soriano :) but still, A-Rod is the most over rated player in the MLB. I would have never picked him up if I were the Yankees. EVER.

Sorry Manny, gotta agree with Anon#4. You seem to be in awe of A-rod, he is not the best player to have ever played the game. He is not even in the top 10. I would like to see who you think are the top 10 players of all-time.

they should bat alexander 9th, that way he won't get in the way...let's see how he does in the playoffs in a clutch situation. probably won't matter this year as we are pretty strong...

The Angels would never let go of Shields to pick up anybody. Scot Shields, in fact, is the most sought after player on the Angels roster and the Angels are not about to let go of a gold nugget like him. Besides, the Angels are all about team attitude, and Alex is too much of an "individual" to fit into that kind of team chemistry.
