Rumor - Andruw Jones to Fire Scott Boras

by TheBuzz

A source deeply involved in the baseball labor market (via a connection of mine) tells me that the buzz around the player agent networks is that Andruw Jones is "highly considering" firing Scott Boras. The source said that Jones is bothered by the fact that the A-Rod mess happened and that Kenny Rogers fired the super-agent, and that Torii Hunter (and not Jones) is getting wined and dined by teams ranging from the Dodgers and White Sox to the Rangers and Royals.

Also, Jones is starting to openly wonder if Boras has burned too many bridges, with the Dodgers' Nick Coletti (after the J.D. Drew mess last year) and the Yankees' Hank Steinbrenner (after A-Rod part I) refusing to negotiate with Boras. Both the Dodgers and Yankees are deep-pocketed teams, and both could potentially use a center fielder depending on what the Yankees do with Johnny Damon.

Plus, it sounds like Jones is willing to take a one year contract to "re-establish his value" like Eric Gagne did, but Boras is dead set against it much to Jones' disapproval.

Don't be surprised if Jones finds different representation before the month is out.

I like Torii Hunter as much as the next guy, but Andruw Jones is still a helluva outfielder.

Yes, he is definitely a great outfielder. So what if he had a bum year this past season? Just have him drop 20 pounds, and I'm sure he'll be back to normal.

Hey Andruw, ever think the reason why nobody wants you is you've turned into Bartolo Colon? Maybe Boras can get you a gig as the next Jenny Craig spokesman.

The only thing that makes this of any interest is that Boras overestimated his abilities and got too cocky and Opt'd A-Rod out during the end of the World Series. Otherwise he'd still be over inflating his clients worth and bluffing like a WSOP champion forcing clubs to shell out 15 million a year for Jesus Colome.

If Boras loses Andruw Jones as a client it may keep him from ever signing any high profile clients. If I remember right he was the agent for J.D. Drew when he was drafted and played independent ball rather than play for the Phillies who drafted him. Bet Drew is glad he is in AL so only has to play in Philadelphia once in a blue moon. His turning his back on Philadelphia will never be forgiven or forgotten by Phillies fans.

Bonds indicted, Boras getting fired or ignored by his best clients - what a great offseason!

I don't think Kenny Rogers is anyones best anything. And I'm sure Boras wouldn't mind the relief of trying to sell Jones with a straight face.

Have you seen Boras' client list? It is not that great once past A-Hole.

If this is true, it would be another huge blow to Boras' image. Not that Andruw Jones is a great player anymore, but if the perception grows that he doesn't have players' best interests in mind, we might see a mass exodus by his clients.

Good defensive outfielder, and sometimes has a good bat. So, who needs him? The Dodgers maybe? Padres?

All the reasons for this aside, this smells of BS. What's the point of firing him now, when he can do the same thing A-Rod did and just rep himself and keep Boras in tow?

This is going to crush the pristine public image of such a fine, upstanding, non-scumbag individual. At least Jones didn't try to eat him first. (or did he?)

Nothing would be better for baseball than if Boras would just dig a hole and hide in it.

Am wondering if Jones is on a downward spiral in his career. How is Boras going to sell Jones with his .222 batting average, .311 OBP and .413 slugging percentage? He hit 15 less homers than in 2006 and 35 less RBI's. His 26 home runs were the least he hit in a season since 1999 when he hit 26. He has never had less than 26 home runs in a 500 at bat season. Can't see him getting Soriano type money with those kind of stats...at least Soriano was coming off a good season.

Ah yes but do not forget NiteOwl that Andruw has significantly improved upon his hot dog eating stats. That has gotta be worth at least an extra $150 million in the opinion of Boras.

Jones might give Kobayashi an run for his money in the next Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest. He hasn't had 400 putouts in several years showing he has slowed down.

Not positive about Kobayashi, but I'm sure Andruw is quite capable of trouncing Juan Uribe.

You all need to pull your head out of your ass and get some facts straight. Andruw came into spring training 20 pounds lighter last year. I love it when dumb shits run there mouth's and don't know shit. Also unilt Anduw missed the last two weeks of the season he was leading the league in put outs buy of'ers.

For being a so-called sports agent, I would've thought you could spell better.
