Rufus Mayes (Rufus Lee Mayes) was born on December 5, 1947 in Memphis, Tennessee. After going to high school at Macomber (Toledo, OH), Mayes attended Ohio State University. Mayes made his professional debut in the NFL in 1969 with the Chicago Bears. He played for the Cincinnati Bengals, Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears over the course of his 11 year career.
