Born on July 13, 1927 in Arroyo, Puerto Rico, Ruben Gomez (Ruben (Colon) Gomez) played for the New York Giants, San Francisco Giants, Philadelphia Phillies, Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Indians over the course of his 10 year career. Gomez broke into the bigs on April 17, 1953 with the New York Giants, and put up a 3.40 ERA in 204 innings pitched in 1953, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Ruben Gomez's best season was 1954, when he posted a 2.88 ERA, won 17 games and struck out 106 batters.
