Born on July 27, 1896 in Pine City, Minnesota, Rube Walberg (George Elvin Walberg) played for the Philadelphia Athletics, New York Giants and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 15 year career. Walberg broke into the bigs on April 29, 1923 with the Philadelphia Athletics, and put up a 5.18 ERA in 120 innings pitched in 1923, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Rube Walberg's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1931, when he posted a 3.74 ERA, won 20 games and struck out 106 batters. However, others believe that it was 1927, when he posted a 3.93 ERA, won 16 games and struck out 136 batters.
