Born on October 9, 1886 in Cleveland, Ohio, Rube Marquard (Richard William Marquard) played for the New York Giants, Brooklyn Superbas, Brooklyn Robins, Cincinnati Reds and Boston Braves over the course of his 18 year career. Marquard broke into the bigs on September 25, 1908 with the New York Giants, and put up a 2.60 ERA in 173 innings pitched in 1909, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Rube Marquard's best season was 1911, when he posted a 2.50 ERA, won 24 games and struck out 237 batters.
