Born on February 9, 1904 in Belton, South Carolina, Roy Mahaffey (Lee Roy Mahaffey) played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Athletics and St. Louis Browns over the course of his 9 year career. Mahaffey broke into the bigs on August 31, 1926 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and put up a 5.01 ERA in 152.2 innings pitched in 1930, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Roy Mahaffey's best season was 1931, when he posted a 4.21 ERA, won 15 games and struck out 59 batters.
