Ross Petty (Manley Ross Petty) was born on September 11, 1892 in Sumner, Illinois. After going to high school at Lawrenceville (IL), Petty attended the University of Illinois. Petty made his professional debut in the APFA in 1920 with the Decatur Staleys. He played for the Decatur Staleys for his entire 1 year career.
