Born on January 16, 1938 in Denver, Colorado, Ron Herbel (Ronald Samuel Herbel) played for the San Francisco Giants, San Diego Padres, New York Mets and Atlanta Braves over the course of his 9 year career. Herbel broke into the bigs on September 10, 1963 with the San Francisco Giants, and put up a 3.07 ERA in 161 innings pitched in 1964, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Ron Herbel's best season was 1965, when he posted a 3.85 ERA, won 12 games and struck out 106 batters.
