Romanowski in Charge of Coaching Up 12-Year Olds

For the most part, rule of thumb is this, a coach of any youth sports team in a given community is typically the “Model Citizen”. The one where parents can put their full trust in this individual to lead & guide their child through athletic competition along the way…Helping the child learn life lessons that only sports can give. Well it would appear there is something very alarming coming out of Piedmont, California (where ever the hell that is…Forgive me, I’m not up on my Cali geography). Piedmont Recreation Department Director Mark Delventhal has put Bill Romanowski in charge of coaching a youth flag football team. Mark, for the development of these young kids…Is this really good? Why, these kids will from here on out be scared for life. Bill Romanowski teaching the game of football to a group of 12-year olds, one of which is his son. And the parents of these children are okay with this? "I think our players are very fortunate to have Mr. Romanowski as a coach."

While this is news in itself, (why am I suddenly sitting here having clips from the movie “Kindergarten Cop” flash through my head?) that Romo is in charge of 12-year olds, the bigger issue is why this all of a sudden has made news. He already had protested rough play during the team's previous game thinking an opposing player tripped one of his. It’s a good thing Bill knows his Flag Football 101….(Rule 24BCD of the Official Flag Football Rulebook found on page 75, clearly states: NO TRIPPING!). Of course in Romo fashion, confronted the player he accused of doing the tripping on the field…”Don’t you know the rules young man”, could be heard out in the parking lot. In his typical way, the most recent “Romo Rage” he scolded another seventh-grader over what the notorious linebacker considered “dirty play”, the recreation league's director said. Well, I guess he would know a thing or two about that now wouldn’t he?

"I think our players are very fortunate to have Mr. Romanowski as a coach." Delventhal said. Um Mark, you can’t be serious….Please tell me you’re joking! I guess this youth rec league in Piedmont somehow needs a role model to properly show its youth the correct way to spit in the faces of other, the proper technique to cold cock teammates…Breaking his eye socket in the process, the correct way to shatter quarterbacks jaws. Oh wait, I forgot, it’s flag football. In that case, Romo can educate these unfortunate ones on what it takes to be a pill popper. It’s takes an abundance of hard work and extreme focus to keep all the pills separate in a container that best resembles a piece of luggage on any standard commercial airline flight. Well in that case, there’s no better man for the job! It’s not everyday children have the honors of being coached up by one of pro football's dirtiest players. What a privilege for them.

Now every good coach has guests appear at a given practice from time to time. While the verdict is still out on the notion of a good coach or not…For some reason I’m leaning towards not, I’m sure long time friends would love to stop by. You know, say J..J. Stokes, Kerry Collins & Marcus Williams. Why they wouldn’t mind stopping by practice from time to time and talking to the team. To tell the boys exactly what kind of coach they really have….Is it out of line to say “ASSHOLE” around 12-year olds? Now for a special treat, you know, for the big game weeks…I’m sure Victor Conte wouldn’t mind coming out to educate your team about steroids and human growth hormones. Halloween is right around the corner, what better way to say “Trick or Treat” than this?

So what if Billy Bob knows football, hey so does Beano Cook…What’s a matter, his resume didn’t stack up quite as well? Or did it have something to do with Beano’s quadruple chin that didn’t get him the job? And we wonder what’s wrong with our youth today. I fail to see how one of the most dirtiest & most corrupt players in NFL history can somehow have a positive influence on kids…I must be blind or something? Although now that Under Armor commercial with the 12-year olds riding on a bus, looking like that just came back from a BALCO three week football camp is starting to become oh so clear now.

In addition of him doing his best to imitate Vince Lombardi, (who’s currently rolling over in his grave) Billy boy also appears on the cover of the latest edition of "Blitz: The League". Which Ironically is an extra-violent football video game. WOW, Go Figure! LastRowSports.com is uncertain whether or not this cover comes with any sort of curses or jinxes? "I can talk smack, kick, punch, spit, knee you in the groin, and it's all legal," Romanowski said of the video game in a recent interview with IGN.com, a gaming web site. "This is my type of game." Now I ask you, is this the kind of human being that should be coaching 12-year olds? With all this talk about smacking, kicking, punching, spitting, kneeing…Is it just me, or does Bill sound like he has the mentality of 12-year old? See everybody, this is what happens when one suffers too many concussions. Another valuable lesson these unfortunate groups of kids have to learn from this pharmaceutical beast! "At this point, I have utmost confidence that Mr. Romanowski will continue to conduct himself in a manner that's appropriate," Delventhal said. One question…What is your definition of the term “appropriate”?

And to think we thought the Dallas Cowboys & the Tuna had it bad with She-O LastRowSports.com

I'm reminded of an old Bill Engvall joke:

"I'm outside with my 4-year-old one day and he's running around playing with his little friend...and I see him hit his friend.

I walk up to him and say, 'Hey. *slap!* We don't hit.'

He looked at me like, 'Here's your sign, dad.'"
