Roman Mejias (Roman (Gomez) Mejias) was born on August 9, 1930 in Abreus, Cuba. He made his Major League debut on April 13, 1955 for the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 1955, his rookie year, he hit .216 with 3 home runs and 21 RBI. Mejias played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Houston Colt .45s and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 8 year career.

Most people believe that Roman Mejias's best season was 1962, when he slugged 24 home runs, hit for a .286 average and knocked in 76 runs.
