Rollins Hit Streak Continues

11
Vote

Philadelphia Phillies SS Jimmy Rollins extended his hit streak to 37 games on Monday. Rollins hit a double off a 3-0 pitch in the eighth inning of a game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Rollins edges ever closer to one of Joe DiMaggio's record 56-game hitting streak. Many consider DiMaggio's hitting streak the most elusive record in all of baseball.

Don't think it would happen, but would love to see the hitting streak broken. It would take the focus off of Bonds and his illegitimate pursuit of the Babe's record.

Is there a problem because of the wraparound? I want him to break Rose's streak of 44 at least.

I think he should be given more credit for the time off. He had to restart the momentum.

Or the counterpoint he had all the offseason to rest his body. I believe his physical situation is more important than something as unquantifiable like "momentum"

Who cares if its unquantifiable, momentum exists and has a profound affect on play.

In any event, it should be treated differently, no?

seriously...the feat itself is pretty amazing...if he ever does it (which i doubt he'll do) he should get all the credit

its not like players get 30 game hitting streaks over two season 10 times a year

it should go down as the longest hitting streak with an asterisk noting it was done over two seasons...it is still as great of an accomplishment as DiMaggio's, maybe greater.

I agree, Bball. If he breaks the record, he would have broken it after coming back from winter break. It's not like getting on a roll, finding your hot spot and just feeling comfortable at the plate. After months off, he has to come back and immediately find his stride again. That's incredibly hard to do.
