Roland Lakes (Roland Hayes Lakes) was born on December 25, 1939 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. After going to high school at Parsons (KS), Lakes attended Wichita State University. Lakes made his professional debut in the NFL in 1961 with the San Francisco 49ers. He played for the San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants over the course of his 11 year career.

Most people believe that 1969 was Roland Lakes's best year, as he recovered 4 opponents fumbles and ran back a fumble for a touchdown.
