Born on December 21, 1960 in Cincinnati, Ohio, Roger McDowell (Roger Alan McDowell) played for the New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles over the course of his 12 year career. McDowell broke into the bigs on April 11, 1985 with the New York Mets, and put up a 2.83 ERA in 127.1 innings pitched in 1985, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Roger McDowell's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1986, when he posted a 3.02 ERA, won 14 games, notched 22 saves and struck out 65 batters. However, others believe that it was 1989, when he posted a 1.96 ERA and notched 23 saves.
