Rod Martin (Roderick D. Martin) was born on April 7, 1954 in Welch, West Virginia. After going to high school at Hamilton (Los Angeles, CA), Martin attended Los Angeles City College and the University of Southern California. Martin made his professional debut in the NFL in 1977 with the Oakland Raiders. He played for the Los Angeles Raiders and Oakland Raiders over the course of his 12 year career.

Most people believe that 1984 was Rod Martin's best year, as he ran back an interception for a touchdown, recorded 11 sacks and ran back a fumble for a touchdown and intercepted three passes in the Super Bowl setting a recored that has been tied but not broken.
