Born on May 26, 1960 in Miami, Florida, Rob Murphy (Robert Albert Murphy) played for the Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox, Seattle Mariners, Houston Astros, St. Louis Cardinals, New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers and Florida Marlins over the course of his 11 year career. Murphy broke into the bigs on September 13, 1985 with the Cincinnati Reds, and put up a .72 ERA in 50.1 innings pitched in 1986, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Rob Murphy's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1989, when he posted a 2.74 ERA and struck out 107 batters. However, others believe that it was 1986, when he posted a .72 ERA.
