With his level of play since returning from his Villarreal fallout, he was an obvious choice. But it became more obvious today.
Even though Alfio Basile will divulge his official list for the upcoming Copa America, it has become rather clear that Boca´s playmaker will be on that list as FC Nürnberg Stuttgart defender Javier Pinola was dropped from the squad.
Pinola just married last Wednesday; moving up his wedding date to be able to play in Copa America. With that in mind PInoal will be considered for the upcoming South American qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup to be held in South Africa. Pinola had earned only two caps for Argentina, but had asserted himself in that position in the recent friendlies against Switzerland and Algeria. Based on this loss, the logical choice to fill Pinola´s spot would be either Manchester United´s Gabriel Heinze or soon-to-be Juventus man Gabriel Milito.
In other news, Juan Román Riquelme as well as Daniel Díaz and Rodrigo Palacio should be reporting to the Argentine training camp in Ezeiza on Friday at the earliest as they will be facing Gremio in the return leg of the Copa Libertadores final in Porto Alegre.
