Born on August 5, 1953 in Austin, Texas, Rick Mahler (Richard Keith Mahler) played for the Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds and Montreal Expos over the course of his 13 year career. Mahler broke into the bigs on April 20, 1979 with the Atlanta Braves, and put up a 2.80 ERA in 112.1 innings pitched in 1981, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Rick Mahler's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1985, when he posted a 3.48 ERA, won 17 games and struck out 107 batters. However, others believe that it was 1988, when he posted a 3.69 ERA and struck out 131 batters.
