Born on January 19, 1954 in Littleton, New Hampshire, Rich Gale (Richard Blackwell Gale) played for the Kansas City Royals, San Francisco Giants, Cincinnati Reds and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 7 year career. Gale broke into the bigs on April 30, 1978 with the Kansas City Royals, and put up a 3.09 ERA in 192.1 innings pitched in 1978, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Rich Gale's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1978, when he posted a 3.09 ERA, won 14 games and struck out 88 batters. However, others believe that it was 1980, when he posted a 3.92 ERA, won 13 games and struck out 97 batters.
