In an odd report from the New York Post, they are reporting that ESPN Baseball Analyst Harold Reynolds has been fired from his position effective immediately. The report appeared in the in Tuesday’s edition of the New York Post, and explains Reynolds' absences from his normal post in the Baseball Tonight studio on Monday night.
This move comes as a huge surprise. Reynolds had been a member of the ESPN staff for the past 11 years and had just signed an eight-year contract extension. He had worked his way up the ranks and became one of the prominent analysts for the station. Reynolds was responsible for both in-studio analysis and in-game coverage.
Not only was Reynolds one of ESPN top baseball men, he is also in midseason which makes this a huge move. Traditionally much like players announcers are only moved during the off season. The ESPN baseball team was already down a man with Peter Gammons out due to health reasons. Now they will finish out the rest of the 2006 season with one less body in the studio.
When contacted ESPN VP Josh Krulewitz said, “We are not going to comment.”
It will be interesting to see which direction ESPN chooses to go in.
