Report: Paul Byrd Bought HGH

Now, in my mind there is no possible way this report is true. Paul Byrd is one of the nicest guys in the majors. He’s active in the community, he donates money, he is very religious, and he’s just the definition of class. The San Francisco Chronicle reported Byrd bought $24,000 in HGH between August 2002 and January 2005. During those years he pitched for the Royals, Braves, and Angels. Byrd is currently working on a book about his religious life and how it ties into his MLB career. What I think this is a desperate attempt by the Chronicle for a big story. Now, if this turns out to be true I’ll look like an idiot, but I will stand by our pitcher.  Byrd is 2-0 this postseason, and has helped the Tribe in a huge way this year.

ESPN is saying he used the bulk of it for recovering from a shoulder injury, before it was banned

if he was advised to take it by a doctor, its still wrong, but it takes alot of pressure off Byrd

If it was legal at the time, it isn't wrong. It might not be the "right thing to do" but if he took it to help him recover so he could be a good pitcher once more, and it was legal, than what's the problem?

I dont think he ALWAYS took it but he has been awfully weak this season and after going from a No. 2 starter to No. 4 it was probably a desperation move

Let's see...MLB player uses a substance that isn't banned by baseball and is fully legal in the US. Why all the outrage? This is like amphetamines...they were legal until last year, when MLB banned them. Do we villainize the people who used amphetamines in the 70s (i.e., everybody)?
