When asked about today’s players, Gene Woodling made such a revealing statement when he replied, "In our day with the Yankees, you never used the words, 'Nice hustle.' That was an insult. You're supposed to run hard all the time. And we did. So you didn't say that to one of our ballplayers. That was an insult. We played hard, and that's the reason we won.

The World Series share often was close to the player's salary. Today, even though most people would love an additional $325,000 or more, to most players, except rookies and young players, it isn't much compared to the salary.

Agree with Romiezzo that we need more players like Rose and Woodling. It makes me sick the way some players lollygag to first base...like they give up if a ball is hit right at someone and go through the motions to first base.
