The Reliant Astrodome is a domed stadium in Houston, Texas, that was most famous as the home to the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball and the Houston Oilers, now the Tennessee Titans, of the National Football League.
The stadium opened in 1965 as the world's first domed stadium; this was indeed a revolutionary event, as sports like baseball and football that would be played in the Astrodome were considered to be "outdoor sports" and prior to the construction of the stadium, the idea of playing those sports indoors was unheard of.
For the 1965 baseball season, the stadium used a natural grass surface. However, this caused problems with the Astros' playing, and was replaced with Astroturf the next season.
The stadium is 18 stories tall and covers 9 1/2 acres of land.
