Thats right! I said it. So what if I did? Even as a USC fan, I must concur that New Orleans Saints rookie and former Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush is the most overrated player in the NFL today.
So what prompts me to write such a piece? Well after reading SI.com's weekly rookie rankings, I discovered that Reggie Bush had once again been selected as the top rookie.
I can't decide why he is so high. So far this season, Bush isn't even among the NFC's top 20 rushers, with only 196 yards on the ground this year. In addition to his poor rushing yards, Mr. Heisman has not even had his first rushing touchdown yet. In contrast, New England Patriots rookie, Laurence Maroney, ranked 10th by SI, leads the Pats in rushing yards with 361, and has scored 3 touchowns on the ground. Maroney is not the only rookie running back to post better numbers than Bush. New York Jets rookie, Leon Washington has 346 yards yards and two scores. Both Maroney and Washington have about 150 more rushing yards than Bush.
Okay, so he has been limited on the ground, but according to SI, Reggie does so much more.
By so much more, they mean 38 receptions and a key punt return for touchdown against Tampa Bay. Counting kickoff returns for touchdowns, punt returns for touchdowns, rushing touchdowns, and receiving touchdowns, Reggie Bush has a combined one touchdown this entire season.
In no way shape or form am I claiming that Reggie Bush is a poor football player. He has certainly been a major contributor on a very good Saints team. However, I just don't feel that Reggie is as good as SI, Fox Sports, and others make him out to be
